Overview

The best psychotherapeutic method is the one that fits the way you think, feel, and process experiences — the one that aligns with your goals and helps you feel safe, supported, and understood. Different approaches work for different people — and this variety exists to give you choice, not confusion.

Finding your best-fit therapy approach

Choosing a psychotherapeutic method can feel confusing — especially when there are dozens of evidence-based approaches, each with its own language, worldview, and tools. Several psychotherapeutic approaches are legally recognised as evidence-based in Ukraine (Ministry of Health, Order No. 2118). Each has its own strengths, structure and focus — and different people naturally resonate with different ways of working. This guide will help you understand the essence of each approach and decide whether it may suit you personally. Importantly, the most effective method is the one that fits you — your emotional style, your pace, your way of thinking, and the challenges you’re facing right now. Research shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship often predicts positive outcomes just as strongly as the technique itself. Because of this, an integrative approach often works best: the mix of elements from different approaches allows therapy to adapt to you, rather than forcing you to adapt to a rigid method. If you’re unsure which method fits you, we can explore it together during our early sessions.

How to use this guide

You don’t have to identify the perfect method on your own. Instead, think about:

  • Do I prefer structure or emotional depth?
  • Do I learn best by talking, doing, or creating?
  • Are my struggles more about emotions, thoughts, relationships, or trauma?
  • What kind of therapeutic atmosphere helps me feel safe?

Your therapist can help refine this and guide you toward an approach — or combination of approaches — that suits you best.
